The Harlandale Education Foundation (HEF) has kicked off its annual HEF Fund Drive, sparking enthusiasm among campus and department fundraising coordinators. The drive will run from January 18, 2023 and end on March 1, 2023.

HEF is an approved 501(c)(3) charitable organization that was initiated in 1999 and has since raised nearly $1.6 million and awarded more than 2,000 Harlandale ISD graduates with scholarships.

As part of its efforts to create a college-going community, Harlandale ISD offers every Harlandale High School, McCollum HS, STEM Early College HS and Frank Tejeda Academy graduate who shows proof of attendance at any college, university or technical school a scholarship. The District is committed to ensuring that all students have access to the resources they need to further their education and the HEF fundraising efforts help support its mission. Harlandale ISD takes pride in offering scholarships to all of its graduates, a rarity among school districts in the city.

This week, the Harlandale Education Foundation was notified that it received a generous donation of $59,148 as a beneficiary to the estate of James Alan Anderson, a 1959 Harlandale High School graduate who passed on July 11, 2022.

“Mr. Anderson’s generous donation is a testament to the impact HEF has on the community and its interested supporters,” said Harlandale Superintendent Gerardo Soto. “We are grateful for the generosity of every donor because their contributions make a real difference in the lives of our students and their families. We are excited to continue our efforts to raise funds for scholarships and other programs that support student success."

This donation, along with the efforts of staff, community members and an anonymous donor who matches the fundraising contributions dollar for dollar, will continue to make a significant impact on the District’s efforts to support all its students.
